Quiero ser abogada!”
— A 6-year-old Lucia Regalado
Born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley, Lucia graduated from McAllen
Memorial High School and left to pursue her undergraduate education at
Texas A&M University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in English.
Eager to join the workforce, she began her career in the field of background
Investigations—conducting field investigations on federal contractors
applying for top federal government national security clearances. This
experience tickled her lifelong interest in the criminal investigative process
which began when she would watch investigative crime reporting shows like
20/20, Dateline and 48 Hours with her family on Friday nights growing up.
As the story goes, after watching one such TV show, 6-year-old Lucia
exclaimed, “Quiero ser abogada”!
After a few years of working Lucia returned to that childhood dream and
Moved to Houston for law school. She graduated from South Texas College of Law and returned home to the valley to begin her career as an Assistant District Attorney at the Hidalgo County Criminal District Attorney’s Office. During her time at the district attorney’s office, Lucia learned the ins and outs of the criminal investigative process, developed and honed her trial advocacy skills while prosecuting the full range of criminal offenses—from misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana and Driving While Intoxicated all the way up to serious felonies like Child Sexual Abuse and Attempted Murder. As an Assistant District Attorney, Lucia was motivated by the simple principles of fairness, truth and justice.
